Operational Excellence Manager - Logistics & Shipping

About the role

AGL Zambia Limited, a multimodal logistics operator (port, logistics, sea and rail) in Africa and part of the MSC Group, is looking for an Operational Excellence Manager in Lusaka. The role drives continuous improvement and operational efficiency across the organisation, focusing on safety, quality, cost, productivity and lead times, and works closely with operational teams and management.

Key responsibilities

• Identify operational issues and opportunities for improvement across the organisation.
• Maintain and prioritise a register of improvement initiatives and projects.
• Lead and support Operational Excellence and continuous improvement projects, using appropriate methodologies and tools.
• Work with operational managers and teams to improve processes and eliminate waste.
• Provide coaching and training on problem solving, standardisation and continuous improvement.
• Monitor the progress and results of improvement initiatives.
• Support management in identifying and prioritising actions aligned with business objectives.
• Promote a culture of continuous improvement, share best practices across AGL entities and communicate results to the organisation.
• Give regular updates to management on progress, challenges and results.

Required profile

• Grade 12 / School Certificate.
• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Project Management or a related field.
• 5-7 years of experience in Operations, Continuous Improvement, Operational Excellence or a related environment.
• Experience implementing improvement initiatives and projects.
• Logistics, transport, terminals or shipping experience is an advantage.
• Qualifications must be ZAQA certified where applicable.

Required skills

• Strong understanding of process improvement and operational efficiency.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work with and influence employees and management at different levels.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills, with a practical, results-oriented approach.
• Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt, and PMP, are advantages.
