Regional Transport Manager

About the role

Trafigura is looking for a Regional Transport Manager in Lusaka. The role provides strategic leadership and governance for road transport across the region, ensuring the safe, reliable, compliant and cost-effective distribution of fuels, lubricants and LPG. It sets regional transport standards, drives operational and commercial performance, strengthens transport partner capability and manages transport risk across all operating markets.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the regional transport strategy and set standards, policies and procedures for safe, reliable and efficient operations
• Drive operational excellence in transport planning, scheduling, dispatch and delivery, and monitor regional KPIs
• Lead the transport economics framework and cost/rate management, and provide technical support to country teams
• Set standards for transporter selection, qualification and performance, and run a Transporter Assessment and Assurance Program
• Support tendering, contract development and negotiations with transport providers, and build relationships with key partners
• Lead road transport HSSE and risk management, including journey, driver, fleet and dangerous goods management, and oversee regulatory compliance
• Manage risks related to road infrastructure, security and border crossings, and support cross-border transport where applicable
• Set standards for product handling, loading, in-transit and delivery, and oversee product quality, loss prevention and service performance
• Promote Transport Management Systems, telematics and fleet tracking, and develop dashboards and data-driven performance management
• Build transport capability, coach country teams, and develop regional competencies and succession plans
• Influence stakeholders such as country general managers, operations managers, supply and logistics teams, HSSE and commercial teams, and regulatory authorities

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, logistics, transport management or a related discipline; a postgraduate qualification is an added advantage
• 12-15 years of relevant experience in transport operations, transport HSSE, contractor management or a related discipline
• At least 5 years in a regional, multi-country, multinational or equivalent enterprise-level transport role
• Hands-on experience managing transporters and third-party logistics providers, and managing transport costs, budgets, contracts and supplier performance
• Experience with transport technology, telematics, TMS and data-driven performance management
• Experience in downstream oil and gas, fuels, LPG, lubricants or another hazardous-products environment is highly desirable
