Accountant – Zambia

About the role

The Accountant will manage day‑to‑day financial operations for Lucia Management’s businesses across Zambia. You will keep the books accurate, ensure timely payments to staff and suppliers, and maintain full compliance with Zambian tax and regulatory requirements while providing clear financial information to support business decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain up‑to‑date financial records for all entities, including general ledger, accounts payable and receivable.
• Perform regular bank and account reconciliations.
• Process staff salaries, wages and statutory deductions (PAYE, NAPSA, NHIMA) on schedule.
• Prepare and file VAT, income tax and other returns with the Zambia Revenue Authority, ensuring timely payment of liabilities.
• Calculate tax liabilities and ensure compliance with Zambian tax law.
• Produce monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and management reports.
• Monitor cash flow, budgets and expenditures, flagging variances and risks.
• Advise management on tax legislation, regulatory changes and financial best practices.
• Liaise with external auditors, tax authorities and regulatory bodies.
• Maintain audit‑ready records of all transactions and supporting documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Minimum three years of hands‑on accounting experience.
• Actively pursuing a chartered accountancy qualification (ZICA, ACCA or CIMA).
• Strong knowledge of Zambian tax law and ZRA filing requirements.
• Highly organised with the ability to manage finances for multiple entities simultaneously.
• Excellent attention to detail, integrity and the capacity to work independently.
• Willingness to travel to the Northern Province once a month for on‑site reconciliations.

Required skills

• Proficiency with accounting software (Odool).
• Advanced spreadsheet skills.
