Artisan / Boilermaker

About the role

First Quantum is seeking an experienced Artisan/Boilermaker to join its maintenance team. The role involves executing both planned and unplanned maintenance tasks on a shift basis, ensuring safety, quality and reliability of plant equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform maintenance on crushers, conveyor steel structures, chutes and heavy‑duty steel components.
• Fit and replace liners, conduct thermal lancing of mantle liners, and carry out general fabrication work.
• Develop and install cable racking bends, off‑sets and other fabricated parts.
• Carry out daily inspections of plant equipment and report findings.
• Read and interpret schematic drawings and on‑site variations.
• Use oxy‑acetylene cutting torches and other welding equipment safely.
• Provide training and development opportunities for Zambian team members.

• Ability to work with minimal supervision on a shift schedule.
• Strong organizational skills and a professional work ethic.

• Willingness to make timely, rational decisions and meet deadlines.

Required skills

• MIG and TIG welding, vertical up and horizontal stick welding.
• Oxy‑acetylene cutting and oxy lancing.
• CNC brake press and plasma cutter operation.
• Heavy fabrication, pipe fitting and fabrication.
• Experience with pre‑pinch rollers, guillotine, punch & shears, band saw.
• Pressure welding, air‑arc gouging, silver soldering and brazing.
• Ability to read and work from schematic drawings.
