Commercial Operations Accountant

About the role

Spectra Oil is looking for a commercially minded and analytically strong accountant to bring financial discipline to its commercial and operational activities across Central and Southern Africa. The role will provide insight and structure across inventory, procurement, pricing, distribution and working capital, enabling data‑driven decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse purchasing, inventory, supplier and operational trends to identify cost‑saving opportunities and optimise working capital.
• Support pricing reviews, margin analysis, surcharge pass‑through assessments and other customer‑specific commercial evaluations.
• Develop and manage commercial rules for SKU performance, including margin thresholds, stock velocity, ABC classifications and safety‑stock parameters.
• Build and maintain finished‑goods cost models covering raw materials, packaging, conversion costs, production yields and waste, ensuring accuracy within the ERP system.
• Review purchasing requirements, assess supplier pricing and payment terms, and ensure operational expenditure is commercially justified.
• Analyse distribution costs, transporter performance, route economics and depot efficiency to support logistics decisions.
• Provide financial and commercial analysis to support customer pricing discussions, spot‑pricing decisions and contractual mechanisms.
• Improve visibility of purchasing and inventory activity to support cash‑flow forecasting and effective working‑capital management.

Required profile

• Commercially minded accountant with strong analytical abilities.
• Experience in cost modelling, inventory governance and pricing analysis.
• Ability to work cross‑functionally with finance, supply chain, sales and distribution teams.

Required skills

• Proficiency with an ERP system for cost modelling and reporting.
