Finance Officer

About the role

Oxfam is seeking a Finance Officer to provide professional financial management, accounting, and operational finance support across its Southern Africa cluster. The role ensures accurate financial records, supports budget planning, and guarantees donor compliance throughout the grant lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Validate supporting documentation and process financial transactions in the approved system.
• Review payment requests, ensure proper approvals, and code expenditures to the correct project, budget line, and donor source.
• Process supplier, partner, staff, and statutory payments within agreed service standards.
• Assist in the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and revisions; monitor spending against budgets and donor agreements.
• Produce weekly and monthly budget variance reports with explanations for significant differences.
• Monitor grant expenditures, ensure compliance with donor contracts and Oxfam policies, and prepare financial data for donor reporting.
• Participate in partner financial due diligence, identify capacity gaps, and support development of partner financial management systems.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a related field.
• Minimum three years of practical experience in accounting or financial management.
• Experience supporting donor‑funded projects and using computerized accounting/ERP systems.
• Strong knowledge of budgeting, reconciliations, financial reporting, and internal controls.
• Professional accounting qualification (ACCA, CIMA, CPA, CA) is an advantage.
