Lifeguard & Swim Coach

About the role

The International School of Lusaka is seeking a qualified Lifeguard and Swim Coach to ensure the safety of students in the pool and to deliver high‑quality swimming instruction across all age groups. This role combines water‑safety supervision with coaching responsibilities in a dynamic school environment.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise swimming activities and enforce all pool rules, safety procedures and emergency protocols.
• Rescue swimmers in distress and provide First Aid and CPR when required.
• Assess pool and water conditions, responding promptly to any hazards.
• Teach and coach swimmers from beginner to advanced levels.
• Support the organisation of swimming galas, competitions and other aquatic events.
• Inspect and maintain pool‑safety equipment.
• Assist with pool operations, including water testing, record‑keeping, equipment inventories and maintaining pool cleanliness.
• Maintain accurate records of incidents, accidents and safety checks.
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues and the wider school community.
• Assist with Physical Education activities during the off‑season as needed.

Required profile

• Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Sports Science or a related field.
• Minimum two years of lifeguarding or swimming‑coaching experience.
• Valid recognised lifeguard qualification.
• Current First Aid and CPR certification.
• Strong swimming, water‑rescue and emergency‑response abilities.
• Experience coaching swimmers of various ages and abilities.
• Commitment to student safety and safeguarding.
• Flexibility to work occasional extended hours, weekends or public holidays.
• Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese is an advantage.
