Technical Coach – Mechanical, Boilermaking & Welding

About the role

The Technical Coach will support boilermakers, welders and related technicians at the Kansanshi Smelter, driving skill development and ensuring compliance with mechanical and safety standards. The role combines on‑the‑job coaching, formal training delivery and technical oversight to minimise downtime and promote a culture of continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure adherence to mechanical codes, safety standards and company procedures.
• Provide on‑the‑job coaching and deliver structured training sessions based on identified skill gaps.
• Prepare and present training materials in collaboration with the KMP Training Department.
• Champion quality on the shop floor, supporting fault diagnosis and corrective actions.
• Assess learner performance, design interventions and monitor their impact using the company’s learning management tools.
• Identify high‑potential artisans for progression to senior roles and maintain records of all coaching activities.
• Report on the effectiveness of training initiatives and work with the training department to refine future programmes.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in mechanical engineering, boilermaking or welding environments.
• Strong knowledge of relevant mechanical codes and safety regulations.
• Ability to coach and mentor technical staff, fostering a learning‑focused environment.
• Excellent communication and assessment skills to evaluate and develop talent.
