Technical Coach – Mechanical, Boilermaking & Welding

About the role

First Quantum is seeking a Technical Coach to lead on‑the‑job training and coaching for boilermakers, welders and related technicians at the Kansanshi Smelter. The role focuses on fostering a culture of continuous learning, ensuring compliance with mechanical codes and safety standards, and supporting operational excellence through skilled workforce development.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure adherence to health, safety, environment, quality, and regulatory requirements, including mechanical codes and company procedures.
• Provide on‑the‑job coaching and formal training in collaboration with the KMP Training Department.
• Prepare and deliver training materials and structured sessions to address identified skill gaps.
• Model best practices, champion quality, and offer visible leadership on the shop floor.
• Support fault diagnosis and corrective actions to minimise downtime.
• Conduct assessments, identify skill gaps, and design interventions using the Proficiency Framework.
• Maintain records of interventions and evaluate their impact using learning management tools.
• Identify high‑potential artisans for progression to senior roles.

Required profile

• Demonstrated ability to comply with mechanical codes, safety standards and company policies.
• Experience in delivering on‑the‑job coaching and formal training for technical trades.
• Strong capability to assess skills, design interventions and monitor performance.
• Proactive attitude towards quality leadership and continuous improvement.
