Control Systems Software Engineer

About the role

The Control Systems Software Engineer will maintain and enhance existing control system software, integrate new devices, and troubleshoot issues to improve system availability. The role requires proactive optimisation of processes and continuous improvement of automation solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Act as first responder for control‑room operational problems.
• Troubleshoot equipment failures and software modifications.
• Assist in installing new and retrofit control systems using Siemens PLC controllers and I/O.
• Support design, development, documentation, and testing of advanced control systems (DCS, PLC, HMI, SCADA).
• Update and develop SCADA applications, configure hardware/software to match field changes.
• Provide technical direction to trainees and ensure adherence to site DCS standards.
• Perform standby duties and any delegated tasks.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years experience in industrial automated control systems.
• Strong analytical, decision‑making and communication skills.
• Ability to work under pressure, prioritize workload and manage multiple projects independently.

Required skills

• Siemens PCS7, TIA Portal, Step 7.
• Network protocols: TCP/IP, Profibus DP/PA, Modbus.
• Programming languages: STL, SCL, FBD, CFC, SFC, C, C++, Visual Basic.
• SCADA/DCS/HMI development and configuration.
• OPC interfaces and OSIsoft PI Historian.
• Understanding of GA drawings, wiring schematics, P&ID.
• Familiarity with ISA best practices and instrumentation control.
