FX & Interest Rate Trader

About the role

Standard Bank Group is looking for a trader in FX and interest rate trading in Lusaka. The successful candidate contributes to the trading desk's performance, profitability and market-making activities across assigned products, with an emphasis on risk management. The role sits under the guidance of the Desk Head.

Key responsibilities

• Research market data, trends and the effect of economic factors, and use domestic and international trade and client data to inform trading decisions.
• Provide market commentary and insights to sales teams, and support client needs through sales teams or direct channels.
• Analyse market developments and trends and turn them into trading positions and pricing activity.
• Determine competitive prices, give and update quotes in line with market vision and trading strategy.
• Learn risk drivers and risk reporting frameworks, and help with risk management; where needed, engage with major hedge providers for trade execution.
• Manage trading market risk within agreed desk limits and protocols, aiming for maximum profitability of the portfolio.
• Liaise with counterparties, brokers and financial institutions to ensure smooth daily operations.
• Stay up to date with industry and disruptive product offerings, including digital trends such as artificial intelligence.

Required profile

• First degree in Finance and Accounting or a related field.
• Grade 12 certificate with a minimum of 5 credits; ZAQA-certified qualifications requested.
• 2-3 years of experience in fixed income trading, money markets and FX trading.
• Basic knowledge of relevant asset classes, instruments and markets.
• Behavioural competencies: practical approach, decision making, attention to detail, risk awareness, composure and results orientation.
