Laboratory Chemist (ICP-MS)

About the role

Alfred H Knight, an independent family-owned inspection, analysis and consultancy business serving the metals and minerals, solid fuels and agriculture industries, is looking for a Laboratory Chemist (ICP-MS) in Kitwe, Zambia. The chemist carries out trace and ultra-trace elemental analysis using Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS).

Key responsibilities

• Perform trace and ultra-trace elemental analysis using ICP-MS.
• Supervise and coordinate work in the General Analysis Laboratory, as delegated by the Geochemistry Specialist.
• Ensure cost-effective operations, defensible data and quality service to all clients.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry or a related chemical science.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in a testing laboratory.
• Hands-on ICP-MS experience, preferably in a minerals, metals, geochemistry or environmental laboratory (desirable).
• Member of the Chemical Society of Zambia and holder of a First Aid certificate.

Required skills

• Strong hands-on analytical skills and ICP-MS operation and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of trace-element analysis, interference correction and QA/QC principles.
• Working knowledge of LIMS and laboratory quality systems.
• Leadership, supervision, communication and safety awareness.
