Accounts Officer – Finance & Billing

About the role

The Accounts Officer will be based at a Mary Begg Health Services (MBHS) facility and work closely with the Finance team at Head Office. The role focuses on patient and third‑party billing, petty cash management, banking, stock counts and pricing reviews for medicines and consumables while delivering professional customer service.

Key responsibilities

• Process patient billing accurately and within set timelines at clinic/hospital level.
• Review billing inputs from receptionists before submission to Head Office finance.
• Address billing queries from Head Office, medical aid companies and contractors promptly.
• Conduct monthly checks on billing performed by billing officers and report results to the Revenue Controller.
• Secure cash receipts from private clients, deposit them into the MBCC bank account and maintain proper records.
• Ensure accounts receivable are processed on time and filed correctly.
• Maintain compliance with Zambian financial regulations and implement changes from ZRA or other government bodies.
• Uphold the Mary Begg confidentiality agreement regarding patient and staff information.

Required profile

• Full Grade Twelve (12) School Certificate or equivalent.
• Diploma in accounts or business administration (or country equivalent).
• Registration with the Zambian Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA) and a valid license where applicable.
• Strong organisational, communication and customer‑service skills.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks and adhere to company policies.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word.
