Lead Production Engineer

About the role

The Lead Production Engineer provides technical leadership and strategic direction for production engineering across mining operations. The role focuses on driving operational excellence through production optimisation, data‑driven decision‑making and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Provide leadership and technical guidance aligned with operational targets, mine plans and business objectives.
• Develop, implement and monitor production optimisation strategies to improve productivity, equipment utilisation and cost performance.
• Analyse production data, identify trends and deliver actionable insights for operational decisions.
• Create and maintain performance dashboards, reports and KPIs to track effectiveness.
• Partner with mining, maintenance, technical services, safety, training and commercial teams to identify and deliver sustainable improvements.
• Lead business‑improvement projects aimed at increasing productivity and reducing costs.
• Review mining processes, pinpoint bottlenecks and recommend innovative solutions.
• Support short‑term and medium‑term mine planning with production engineering input.
• Provide technical support in fleet optimisation, production scheduling, material movement and operational readiness.
• Promote adoption of technology, automation and data analytics to boost performance.

Required profile

• Proven leadership experience in production engineering within mining or industrial settings.
• Strong analytical and data‑driven decision‑making abilities.
• Ability to collaborate with cross‑functional teams (operations, maintenance, technical services, safety, training, commercial).
• Experience developing and using KPIs, dashboards and performance reports.
• Capability to identify process bottlenecks and implement innovative solutions.
