Metallurgist, Flotation & Optimization

About the role

First Quantum is seeking a Metallurgist specialized in flotation and optimization to join its mineral processing team. The role focuses on improving flotation circuit performance to meet recovery targets and concentrate grade specifications through daily monitoring, data analysis and implementation of short‑ and medium‑term solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical support to the operations team to maintain optimum plant performance.
• Conduct hot‑float trials to identify the best operating strategy for the ore body.
• Optimize operational strategies and deliver daily input based on analysis of operational data.
• Troubleshoot poor recovery, concentrate grade, and equipment under‑performance through audits, data analysis and laboratory float tests.
• Perform plant surveys, interpret results and develop/update dashboards for operational guidance.
• Carry out technical audits, identify deviations from design and operational parameters, and implement corrective actions.
• Inspect key flotation equipment and assist in creating predictive maintenance plans.
• Develop mass‑balance calculations and assist in evaluating test and plant data.
• Liaise with other sections and departments to ensure timely information flow for efficient plant performance.
• Adhere to safety regulations, implement quality‑assurance documentation and perform any other duties as required.

Required profile

• Degree or diploma in Metallurgy or a related discipline (or qualification acceptable for membership of the Engineering Institute of Zambia).
• Minimum of 2 years relevant experience in a plant environment.
• Strong analytical and data‑analysis capabilities.
• Problem‑solving aptitude and experience with laboratory flotation testing is an advantage.
• Computer literacy with Microsoft Office.
