Area Supervisor, Cable Handling

About the role

The Area Supervisor, Cable Handling ensures safe and efficient cable handling activities that support mining operations in designated production areas. You will supervise installation, relocation, protection, inspection and maintenance coordination of high‑voltage and low‑voltage trailing cables.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise daily cable handling tasks, ensuring safe relocation, extension, recovery and protection of trailing cables.
• Coordinate cable relocation plans with pit advancement, conduct inspections and arrange corrective actions for damaged installations.
• Work closely with drill‑and‑blast teams to isolate or protect cables before blasting and conduct post‑blast inspections.
• Promote a strong safety culture, enforce lock‑out/tag‑out procedures and report hazards, incidents and near‑misses.
• Lead and mentor Cable Handling Operators and Assistants, providing coaching, performance feedback and identifying training needs.

Required profile

• Grade 12 Certificate with a Diploma or Certificate in Mining, Mineral Science or related field.
• Minimum 3 years experience in open‑pit mining, mine infrastructure or electrical distribution and at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
• Valid Blasting License and First Aid Certificate.
• Ability to work rotating shifts, overtime and standby duties in an open‑pit environment.
