Artisan Fitter – Smelter Mechanical Maintenance

About the role

The Artisan Fitter will join the Smelter Mechanical team at Kansanshi Mining Plc, performing preventive and corrective maintenance on critical hot‑metal smelting equipment. This hands‑on role ensures reliable operation of hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical systems in a high‑temperature environment.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance on all hot‑metal smelting equipment (ISA, MSEF, WHB, ESP).
• Maintain hydraulic units, boiler pumps and positive displacement fuel pumps.
• Service hot‑metal tapping and plugging machines and MSEF electrode columns.
• Maintain belt and drag‑chain conveyors, molten‑metal launders and tap blocks with associated cooling‑water piping.
• Identify equipment defects, troubleshoot issues and implement corrective actions.
• Identify and drive improvement opportunities within the smelter plant.
• Adhere to health, safety, environment and quality policies at all times.

Required profile

• Minimum Grade 12 education.
• Craft Certificate or equivalent in Mechanical Fitting.
• EIZ certification and registration with the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
• At least 5 years of maintenance experience on smelting plant equipment or similar.
• Knowledge of routine inspection procedures, hydraulic and pneumatic circuitry, and safety requirements for furnace tapping, launders and cooling‑water systems.
• Demonstrated teamwork, safety consciousness and quality focus.
